Online Departure and Arrival Board in Real Time
Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport (NQZ) offers travelers access to an online board where flight information is updated in real time. The board displays flight status, terminal number, gate, and delay information.
To avoid unpleasant surprises, we recommend checking the data 24 hours before departure, and then again 3 hours before check-in begins. Most airlines and services like FlightAware or FlightRadar24 allow you to track the aircraft’s location online.
For accurate information about the terminal and gate, subscribe to push notifications in your airline’s app. Remember that the gate number may change 30–40 minutes before departure, so always check the information on the board directly in the terminal.
How to Get From the Airport to the City and Back?
NQZ Airport is located 15–16 km southeast of Astana’s city center. The journey to the city takes from 20 to 50 minutes, depending on the chosen transport and traffic conditions. The main ways to get there are public buses, taxis, and transfers.
Transport awaits passengers at the exit from the arrival hall of both terminals. During rush hours, from 7:00 to 9:00 and from 17:00 to 19:00, travel time may increase. When planning your trip to the airport, always allow extra time for possible traffic jams.
Buses and Express Routes
Three bus routes run from the airport. They depart from 6:00 to 22:00 at intervals of 15–30 minutes.
- Route No. 10: goes to the railway station through the city center.
- Route No. 12: goes to the “Myasokombinat” stop.
- Express No. 100: also goes to the railway station, but with fewer stops.
The trip to the center by regular bus takes 40–50 minutes, by express — 30–35 minutes. The fare is 90 tenge when paying with a transport card and 180 tenge when paying with a bank card or cash to the driver. Night buses do not run from the airport, so for late flights it is better to choose a taxi.
Taxi and Individual Transfer
In the arrival halls of both terminals there are official Taxi Point counters where you can order a taxi at a fixed price. A trip to the center will cost 2000–3000 tenge and will take 20–30 minutes without traffic jams. Payment is accepted by card, and you will be given a receipt with the vehicle details for safety.
Individual transfer services, such as Kiwitaxi or Viator, offer a meeting with a sign in the arrival hall. This is a convenient, albeit more expensive option: the cost of a trip starts from 6000 tenge. The price is fixed when booking online, which eliminates surprises.
You can also use taxi ordering apps, such as Yandex Go. You will have to wait for the car at the parking lot at the exit from the terminal. The cost will be comparable to an individual transfer. Be sure to check the license plate and car model before boarding.
Astana Airport Terminals and Navigation
Astana Airport consists of two terminals: T1 for international flights and T2 for domestic flights. They are connected by a convenient transition gallery, which takes about five minutes to walk through. All signs at the airport are duplicated in Kazakh, Russian and English.
The arrival halls are located on the first floor of both terminals. From here you will get to the transport stops and parking lots. The departure halls are located on the second floor. After check-in, passengers go through security and head to the boarding gates.
For transit passengers, there is a special corridor that allows you to make a connection without leaving the city. The recommended time for connections is from 45 to 75 minutes for international flights and from 30 to 45 minutes for domestic flights.
Services and Amenities for Passengers
Both terminals offer free Wi-Fi with no time limit. The speed is enough for comfortable work and video calls. Sockets and charging zones for devices are located in waiting areas, cafes and arrival areas.
Duty Free shops and food court establishments in international terminal T1 are open 24 hours. In terminal T2 they are open from 6:00 to 23:00. The airport also has prayer rooms, mother and child rooms, a medical center and a pharmacy.
You can exchange currency or withdraw cash at ATMs that operate around the clock in the arrival and departure halls. At the exit from the arrival zone there are sales points for SIM cards of local operators.
Parking and Car Rental
The airport has several parking zones. The Kiss & Fly zone allows you to stop for free for 15 minutes to drop off and pick up passengers. For longer parking, there are open and covered parking lots.
| Parking / Zone | Free | Price Per Hour | Price Per Day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kiss & Fly | 15 min | — | — |
| Short-term P1 | — | 100 ₸ | 1000 ₸ |
| Long-term P1 | — | 100 ₸ | 4000 ₸ (per week) |
| Covered P3 | — | 1200 ₸ | 2000 ₸ |
You can pay for parking through QR codes on the terminals at the entrance and exit. Car rental counters (Avis, Europcar and others) are located in terminal T2 on the first floor. To arrange a rental you will need a driver’s license, passport and bank card to make a deposit.
Luggage Storage at Astana Airport
If you have a long layover or want to walk around the city light before checking into your hotel, you can leave your luggage in luggage storage. This service is available in both terminals.
Luggage storage at the airport operates 24/7 and accepts luggage for a period from several hours to three months. You can store suitcases, backpacks and hand luggage. The service is located in a public area, before security screening.
Luggage storage facilities are located on the first floor in the arrival hall of both terminals. Look for the signs “Luggage Storage”.
- In terminal T1 the counter is located in the arrival hall, to the right of the exit to transport.
- In terminal T2 the point is located in the common hall, near the information desk, follow the “Services” sign.
How Much Does Luggage Storage at Astana Airport Cost?
The cost of storage starts from 900 tenge per day per one standard piece of luggage. The price may vary depending on the size of your belongings. Keep in mind that storage time is rounded up to full days: even if you left your belongings for 25 hours, you will have to pay for two days.
The airport offers two storage formats:
- Counter with an employee: you hand over your luggage to an employee, receive a receipt, and your belongings are placed in a special service room.
- Automatic lockers: you independently place your belongings in a cell, using a QR code or barcode received after payment.
The process of checking in luggage is simple. Go to the counter or terminal, select a cell of the desired size and pay for the service. After that, you will receive a receipt or access code to the locker. To pick up your belongings, present your receipt and ID.
Basic rules:
- It is forbidden to store hazardous substances, perishable products and undeclared valuables.
- The maximum weight of one piece of luggage is 32 kg.
- If you lose your receipt, luggage can be returned by presenting your passport and describing the contents of the bags in detail.
Qeepl Luggage Storage Service
In addition to standard luggage storage, travelers can use the services of the international service Qeepl. This is a global platform that offers a network of partner points for luggage storage throughout the city: in hotels, cafes and shops. This option is convenient if you want to leave your belongings not at the airport, but closer to the center or attractions.
The booking process is completely online. You find a convenient point on the map through the Qeepl website or app, select a time and pay for the service. The exact address and access code are sent to your email immediately after payment. The cost of storage starts from ₸1,890, and each bag is insured for up to ₸100,000.
Comparison With Traditional Luggage Storage
The choice between stationary luggage storage at the airport and a network service depends on your plans. Airport luggage storage is convenient for short layovers or if you are not going to leave the terminal. They are always at hand, but may be less flexible in terms of rates.
Network services offer more flexibility and freedom, allowing you to leave luggage in a convenient part of the city. Online booking saves time and eliminates queues, and cashless payment is especially convenient for foreign tourists.
